Reduce tobacco use by encouraging the use of alternatives

For decades, tobacco has held the distinction of being the leading preventable cause of death in our country. Lawmakers have rightfully worked on legislation meant to discourage consumption of tobacco products, but one unwanted side-effect of the crusade against tobacco has been that the crusade now is now against much safer alternatives to tobacco such as vaping.

By any measure, vaping is a far safer method of absorbing nicotine than using tobacco products. We need to remove roadblocks that prevent adults who are of smoking age from purchasing and using vapes. This means reversing the legislation signed by Donald Trump that prevents vape products from being shipped through the postoffice and other parcel delivery companies such as UPS, FedEx and DHL.

Further, we need to write Federal legislation that strikes down tobacco-related excise taxes enacted by the states from being applied to vaping related products. Those taxes were originally created for dual purpose of making tobacco manufacturers and their customers pay a tax that would be funneled into health care for the treatment of tobacco related illness and to increase the price of tobacco products to reduce access by younger generations.
